Look what I "found"...

I say "found" because I didnt know it was lost... so I guess really I discovered it :)

 

It is a mini album of Joshua's first birthday party, which we celebrated by way of a lovely family & friends BBQ gathering hosted by my gorgeous SIL Cassie {and her fabulous hubs, Matt}at their home in the Adelaide Hills. Last September. Sheez...

This discovery occured over the long weekend when Mikaela and I did some cleaning of my studio. Says a lot about the state it was in :) We got 3 large plastic boxes cleared out and put away. Quite an achievement really!

So it looks as tho my nesting has extended to my studio... joy of joys!

Creations to Cherish...

Is my scrapbooking course I teach at our local tafe on Tuesday nights each term.

Here are a couple of layouts and a mini-album I did last term by way of "in-class demonstrations" for my students:

Weekend in Review….

I **love** a long weekend, especially a wet one, it pretty much has rained all weekend. We got to do quite a bit of family stuff, relaxing stuff, lots of eating and cooking. I did some sewing/scrapping… bit of cleaning and sorting.

Saturday night was family movie night, we watched “Bridge to Terabithia” which was really good.

Sunday morning Mikaela and I had “Mum & Daughter” date, went to a café for brunch then did some girly shopping, where Mikaela got some new Smiggle stuff (but of course!)

In the afternoon we made a gorgeous chocolate cake….

I managed to finish the other pram liner and the change/play quilt…

With the few charm squares I had left over I made a library bag for Mikaela…

This morning I made bacon and eggs for the family…

Nath rewarded me with taking the kids off to Questacon so I had some time to myself. Lucky Me.

I used that time to do some scrapping using the ReVa May kit… will share soon. If you haven't already, make sure you enter the competition to win yourself a kit :)

Patchwork love...

Once upon a time... I did a lot of sewing, did a 3 year part time course at tafe, was really into it, had my own children's line "Little Grommits" which I sold at local markets. Then not so much for a long time. Just lately I am getting back into it... inspired by pregnancy hormones and my dear friend Tanya, I've decided to give Patchworking a go, which I have never done before {and the results indicate this, believe me!!}

Since this is my first attempt at patchwork, I thought I'd start small with two liners for the double pram that I got from my friend Manon. I got these fabrics a little while ago, they have been waiting patiently for me to pay some attention to them! I got Amy Butler Daisy Chain from here. I thought this material selection was pretty "unisex" but both Mikaela and Nath tell me otherwise. Oh well.

I even had a little helper with the overlocking...she was most impressed with this strange machine...

So far we have finished the one for Joshua. One down and one to go.

I am also making a Change/Play Quilt with the same fabric.

Plus I am making a quilt for Mikaela using Heather Bailey Pop Garden charms. YUM!

I kinda have these all going at once, but only got the one liner finished so far. If you dont look very closely it kinda looks okay. Asides, Joshua and Baby#3 will only make a huge mess on them anyways... cant be too precious about them :) Right? :) Hopefully I'll get a lot more done over the weekend. Will see.

I think of my Pop often, but especially on Anzac Day... he was a POW at Changi for 3 and a half years... We used to always joke that we came from "strong character"... but that's not a joke, it takes a very strong character to live through such an experience. I think the saddest thing is that his Dad died while he was still MIA. My Pop was not bitter about his experience, but he did throw all his medals down the back of the yard... we never found them. I love you Pop.

31 weeks...

I really enjoy being pregnant for the most part, I do suffer some major indigestion in the last stages, and have had some leg cramping these past couple of weeks, but all in all I cherish the blessing and experience of carrying life:

• I am loving the feeling of our baby moving about...  it amazes me that I am a vessel for another life.
• I am loving how bubba {usually} only moves about for me. If I am uncomfortable or want the babe to stop... all I need to do is get someone else to place their hand on my belly and babes becomes instantly still. Makes me laugh and think that they already have quite the sense of humor.
• I am loving how Joshua tries to stick his finger into my {now protruding} belly button when asked about the baby.
• I am loving the circling of empowered women, my midwife and my doula... my friends and our combined experiences, good and bad.
• I am loving the sharing and caring, the sacredness of impending motherhood.
• I am loving this book - Birthing From Within - which I am devouring right now. It really is amazing!!
• I am loving that I am still really active and feeling fit, strong and healthy.
• I am loving that Mikaela is so very excited about the arrival of another sibling.
• I am loving that Nath and I are quite organised.
• I am loving the calm and relaxed approach that Nath and I are embracing this time around.
• I am loving the day dreaming of what our baby will be like, whether it is a boy or a girl, what will their personality traits be like. All those thoughts. All those things.
• I am loving these last few weeks of anticipation.

Mikaela's Room...

So my nesting has extended to Mikaela's sacred space also {I wish it would extend to my studio too, but there seems little chance of that!!}...

Firstly let me say that I love the earthy tones of our (rented) home, but coming into our 4th year here... I would like to update the colour scheme a little. Especially in the kids rooms, I think I'd go for a light Aqua. Anyways that wont be happening until we build and that is a way off yet.

Here is a tour of Mikaela's bedroom as is right now {rarely this tidy LOL!}... looking in:

Above her bed head, the butterflies are ones I punched from the left overs of her Owl Vinyl (see below).

The framed art above her bed (Ribba ones 30cm x 40cm) Mikaela selected herself from my "store"... I was surprised that she chose these ones, happily surprised.

 

I particularly like the one in the middle "magic" as it has this Roald Dahl Quote:

"Above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”

Mikaela is totally obsessed by Roald Dahl right now. I love that!

Some more art, the one above is "flutter" smaller sized prints (8" x 8") are on sale on my Etsy store. The other "foil framed" piece is one Mikaela and I did together during a weekend in Adelaide last year.

We are lucky to have really big sized windows all through our home, there is nothing better than letting in the sunlight and fresh air.

Mikaela is most happy with the latest updates and refreshment of her room... and the fact that we've put her "lecky blanky" on to prepare for winter :)

Mikaela's bed, bedside table and chest of drawers are the Lila range from here... and the shelf unit on the drawers is this one.

Fiji Mini Album...

This is a bit of a hybrid mini album, as I used some digital overlays for the photos and to create the journaling tags. Putting this album together was SUPER QUICK as I simply used the cover as a template to create the inner pages and barely any further embelishments asides from the cover. easy peasy.

 

There are quite a few more pages, but that gives you a good idea of the project.

Digital Elements I used were these by Ali Edwards. Plus these too.

Bracket shaped album covers are by teresa collins (I LOVE THESE)!!

Chipboard letters and elements are Girl Friday by Cosmo Cricket.

2009 chipboard numbers are from the "center of attention" mixed up chipboard alphabet by Heidi Swapp.

Patterned papers are by s.e.i and cherry Art.

I used my Bind it All to pull the album together, quite literally because I am not so good with that device!! Oh well, still worked.

Being "behind" in scrappin is a GOOD thing...

I used to be one of those people who wished they were "up-to-date" with my scrapbooking. Now after some 8 years, I realise that is both an unrealistic and futile desire. Asides, being behind has its benefits too, Joshua's First Year album proved that to me.

After finishing Joshua's album I was thinking I wanted to do something similar for my annual albums. I do a lot of design work, challenges and general "scrap however, whatever I feel at the time".... which means I may scrap 6 pages of the one photo shoot and not many more from that month. Something I need to work on a bit more. I am definitely trying to aim for more "everyday" type scrapping.

Then I saw this calendar idea from Nicole some time ago.. and knew that would be my solution.

Using Ali Edwards digital calendar templates... I created these while we were in Fiji:

  

 

  

I finished 2008 and up to where I could for 2009.

I love how they provide a “snap shot” of what we’ve been up to for the month.

I also did a “summary” page for each month, using my favourite photo of the month as a entire 12” x 12” layout… and jotting down a few of the main features of our month. Here is an example of February 2008:

 

The frame for the layout above is from Ali's Songbird Ave Bloom & Grow kit. For each other month I just used these ones.

I will print these pages as “double layouts” and probably make them a little more “hybrid” by mounting onto patterned papers and adding embellishments’ to the calendar side of the pages. See how I go. Will share more as I pull the album together.
