Yesterday was...
Nath and I were woken at 6 am by Joshua with very strained breathing... it sounded like asthma to me. By the time I got him to the Doc, he had started to cough and I was leaning more towards croup... Doc confirmed it was and prescribed some meds.
Home by lunch, meds given... settle down for a quiet one at home.
By the time I go to collect Mikaela, Joshua's breathing is laboured and stridor is present... he falls asleep and is okay.
We drop Mikaela off at horse riding.
Take both boys to the Emergency Department.
Joshua wakes, gets scared and stridor is dramatically worse.
As the triage nurse is trying to assess him, Joshua is getting more and more distressed and I start to cry too. He is oblivious because he is SO VERY distressed himself by now. I am trying to calm him, reading him a book.
It is clear he needs to be admitted and we are bi-passed second desk check in entirely and they do it all at once at triage. Ben is just sitting in his pram observing.
We return to the waiting room and I am trying to settle him.
Joshua is more and more upset and has a coughing fit and thereby vomits on me. Two lovely ladies in the waiting room bring me chuck bags.
I calm him down.
Ben starts to cry and I have to get him out of the pram.
I can't nurse them both at once, so I have to put Ben on the floor, slowly and gently transfer Joshua into the pram.
He falls alseep.
I breastfeed Ben.
Nath arrives... we are admitted.
Joshua wakes a short time after I lay him on the bed... the nurse and doctor check him over. He gets very distressed again.
He is given steroids. He settles down to rest and watch Cars (thank god for Cars, and not Sponge Bob as it was last time we were there... I really dont like SB).
Nath and Ben go to collect Mikaela and home for dinner.
Joshua improves dramatically... we watch Cars, Joshua asks LOTS of questions "what his name Mum" of the cars... we read some books... we do some drawing and colour in a Thomas and James picture.
Photos taken with my iphone.
Joshua says things like "you are joking me Mum" when we are talking about the movie. Mainly when I dont know the names of the cars! He is clearly back to "himself"...
Nath, Mikaela and Ben return with some soup I had on the slow cooker, and some fruiche ... AND some chocolate.
Joshua just wants cuddles from Mikaela.
Mikaela, Ben and I get ready to go home.
Doctor arrives.... we are ALL GOING HOME - Yah !!!!
We have some oral steroids to give Joshua over the next two days... cross fingers all remains on the up and up in recovery for our brave little dude.
He really is so very brave.
Stridor is awful, the barking cough so hard to listen to as it must be so very painful... this time, the hardest thing was that it just came on so so quickly... and strong. All of a sudden it was very very scary.
Thankfully the nurses and doctors are super calm and reassuring.
Right now he rests in our bed, and we are going to have him sleep with us tonight, so it'll be a cozy four in our bed.
Oh and his "back to himself" banter after he got the steroids, reminds me of this layout I did recently:
I hope all is well with you and yours.
Love and blessings.
