EVER, okay, well since school days :)
I did the Sri Chinmoy 10km yesterday morning... it was perfect weather for a run. A bit cool, slightly overcast... nice! Yesderday was also Sport For Women Day and I felt so pleased to be participating in a running event on such a special day.
Unfortunately none of my family were able to come see me run. Nath and Mikaela had left the house at 715am for Goulburn, where Mikaela had a game and Nath was coaching the other team for SJL (Southern Junior League) Basketball.
Thankfully my wonderful neighbour, Lexi {and her adorable bubba, Lilli... who my Ben is totally INLOVE with} was able to come over and mind the boys for us while I went out to run the race.
Here I am just before leaving home, boys still in their pajamas and half asleep:
My girlfriend Jodie and her son Jake came to see me finish, and took these photos (THANK YOU JODES) I think you can see how chuffed I was that Jake ran me in to the finish line:
Moments after crossing the finish line, I hear "REBECCA" ... I turn and see my IRONWOMAN running buddy, Rowena! She had rode as fast as she could from (lord only knows...100km away!!) and just missed my finish, which she was bummed about, but I was happy as it meant I made good time :)
Stats (according to my Nike+) are:
Time 57.09
Pace 5'43"
Fasted 3'29"
Slowest 9'16"
5km 29:23
According to official results I ran a flat 57:00 and came 21st of 33 female runners under 50.
So happy I just scrapped in for a 5km under 30mins... and just with my goal of the 10km under 60mins. I am so chuffed as that was my goal & I now have a PB to try and shave off each race.
My previous PB was 76mins for 10kms, so I was no where near confident I could do it.
But I did... and for someone who only started regular running 6 weeks ago... I am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.
Only now I feel that my training runs are a bit, well... soft? Rowena set me straight immediately... a long run is nothing like a 10km race pace. mmmmm, yes, true!
Anytime you think you are not doing so well... remind yourself how long you've been at it (a relatively short time I am sure) and then how far you've come... and relax.
It's all good!
Hugs
