Round 1 of 2012
Task 1 - Introduce Yourself...
Hiya all... I am Rebecca from Canberra. Married. Stay at home Mumma to 3 kiddies (10, 4 and 2 years). This is my 4th round of 12WBT. 2012 will be the first time I will complete all three rounds back to back. I am in my healthy BMI and I am looking to lose the last 5kgs for GOOD. 2012 will be my year to crack that nut that is my 5kg loss/gain cycle. Argh! 2012 also marks the year I turn 40. Awesome! Looking forward to sharing our journey's here in this fabulous supportive community. Bek x
Task 2 - GET REAL, no more excuses...
I used to think I was afraid to fail. Then I read or heard something Mish said... afraid to succeed because it means to become entirely responsible and accountable. To grow up. And it's not that I am immature, I am turning 40 this year. I consider myself to be a pretty mature and self reflecting person. I am aware that the changes I want in my life, are ones I need to make within myself.
But I am afraid to become all that I can be, to be entirely successful.
How can that be? It's like I think I'll jinx myself, or my family... that things just can't be exactly how I dream my life to be... or something will go wrong.
I don't deserve it.
mmmmm.... it has a great deal to do with my upbringing, and I think I've made some remarkable progress to let that all go and be the best I can be, to have compassion and empathy, to draw strength from those experiences. I have become a pretty fabulous version of myself, but the best of me? no, not yet. I have weeks were the best of me surfaces... but not permanently. That's what I'll be working on this round.
I think this will take some internal work. I am doing a six week meditation course and getting some Private Subconscious-mind Healing (P.S.H.) done too.
Internal Excuses
- you are fighting your body to get 5kgs lighter than you are.
- you are fine as you are
- you can't stick to it and keep to your word
Solutions
- I feel happiest when I am 5kgs lighter. I can get there, this time I need to work on staying there.
- Well, yeah... you kinda look fine, but you want to look your best... it's about health more importantly!
- I will ask for help and get help when I need it, I am not an island & I am capable of change.
External Excuses (within my control)
- It's too cold (or hot), I'll just do my workout later.
- I just don't feel like it today.
- I have the boys and Nath and Mikaela are away for the weekend.
Solutions
- It wont be cold (or hot) once you get started... and you know you wont do it later!
- So what!
- Hire a babysitter if it is a key workout, like a long run for marathon training.
External Excuses (Outside my control)
- I'm injured.
- kids get sick
Solutions
- Do your recovery & physio... take it easy when you know you need to. Ramp it up as you get better.
- do a workout from home
Task 3 - Take Control, Set your Goal...
1 month Goals
Lose 4kgs and get lean again.
How I will get There
Follow MB12WBT to the letter & record in my food diary.
3 month Goals
- Participate in Amy's Ride, 105km road race.
- Participate in a half Marathon
- Lose another 3-4kgs (7 or 8 in total by end of R1/2012).
How I will get There
- Train with FIT (Females in Training, Canberra).
- Do the FIT training program for half marathon.
- Follow 12WBT program.
6 month Goals
Still have been at goal weight - no 5kg pendulum swing!
Do an Olympic distance triathlon? Maybe.
How I will get There
Meditate, healing therapy, believe in myself.
12 month Goals
Lots of running, more half marathons, fun runs.
City 2 Surf 2012
City to Bay 2012
Have spent the ENTIRE year at my goal weight, or +/- 2-3kg... and be well on my way to making this a true lifestyle change, not just a quick fix.
How I will get There
Book into the races and do them.
Get the help you require.
Task 4 - Gear Up...
I am totally geared up.
I have absolutely everything I need. Last round I got a lovely bike I call White Knight.
Recently I bought a great set of dumbells for bootcamp and home workouts (no excuses).
And a couple of pairs of sunnies.
On my wish list, some resistance bands TRX system and maybe some medicine balls?
I have no excuses in this regard what-so-ever!
Task 5 - Say it out loud...
Clearly, by the simple fact that I have a blog... it's obvious I don't mind putting myself out there and stating my intentions.
However... I really hate when my intentions and desires, aspirations do not come into reality. Or they DO come into reality... but not for long. Week 11 of Round 3 of 2011 I was SO very close to my goal at 59kgs... this only lasted a few weeks.
8th Feb 2012 I weighed in at 64kgs. I'd like to lose 7kgs to reach my goal. I want to reach 57kgs and stay there (within a kg or two). I am determined to get to the reasons as to why I am doing the 5kg pendular and stop it for good. Well ... the pendular in general with weight and training. I am all or nothing... I would like to find more balance and consistency this year, more of an even keel approach. I am committed to doing all three rounds of 12WBT for 2012 .
I am looking at a more holistic way to be in 2012, with my health and fitness in body, mind and spirit. I too (like many of us) am also looking to get more sleep and next week I start a 6 week meditation course.
I have given my family an entire nutrition overhaul... we are now gluten and {mostly} sugar free.
Fitness wise: I will stick with my varied (6-9) weekly sessions of running, personal training, cycling, boot camp, weights, cross-fit and swimming. I am committed to finishing the 105km Amy's ride. Maybe the May half marathon? Another C2S? My first triathlon late in the year? I am also 100% committed to my postural correction sessions with my PT each week... and the homework that goes with it.
This year is all about getting to my goal {be at weight & be happy with myself} and maintaining it... and {simply} enjoying all my varied training as best I can without applying too much pressure on myself and my family (or getting injured again).
Consistency is Queen for 2012 & my main objective. Oh and to...

Task 6 - Kitchen Makeover...
Okay.. this round was super easy to achieve this... we went on holidays, came back and our fridge had been off for a couple of weeks. Rancid and enough to turn me vegetarian. So disgusting!
This round I am also getting my entire family to go Gluten, Sugar and (eventually) Dairy free.
I'm the boss of the family nutrition... simple. I think nutrition can cause and heal many illnesses. That's my attempts - along with Michelle Bridges clean diet of 12WBT, I am 100% sure I can get my family to optimum health.
Task 7 - Organise and Diarise...
I love this part of the pre-season tasks... the most creative and fun & I find easy to get my book together. THere are also lots of apps for iphone and ipad to use.
This post is about my preferred method. I have to write it down.
Task 8 - Measure Up...
I have to get hubs to take a photo this weekend... and I'll post the details of my measurements and all as well.
So that's it for now. Another round. Another set of varied goals and aspirations.
I know that 2012 on the 12WBT will be the best year yet.

[DETAILS OF PRE SEASON TASKS FOR PREVIOUS ROUNDS ARE BELOW]
Here are my preseason tasks for Michelle Bridges: Round 3 of 2011
Task 1 - Introduce Yourself...
Hiya, I am Rebecca. This will be my third round of 12WBT... I did my first in Round 3 of 2010, and lost near 10kgs. In the second round (1 of 2011) I got quite lean and was really happy with where I was at. I was doing lots of metabolic conditioning workouts (cross fit style) and I started to get into running quite a bit. I did 3 half marathons... and started training for a marathon.
Ironically, this was my undoing.... I trained too much, too soon and I also found it really hard to rest. This led to a serious injury which I am still working with on trying to get it fixed.
I also totally relaxed on my nutrition, BIG MISTAKE... I gained around 6kg in a matter of weeks.
I am a stay at home Mumma to 3 fabulous kidlets, aged 10, 4 and 2... married to Nathan the fabulous :)
Task 2 - GET REAL, no more excuses...
Internal Excuses
- you look fine as you do now
- why go to so much trouble and bother to try and achieve the near impossible.
- It's just a little {something/anything}... it won't hurt to eat/drink it.
- you'll get injured, quit, not give your all.
Solutions
- Well, yeah... you kinda look fine, but you want to look your best... it's about health more importantly!
- Nothing is impossible unless you convince yourself it is!!
- OH but it WILL, and you know that full well... nutrition is key for you, diet is everything!
- You may get injured... you get better, injuring yourself is not quiting!!!
External Excuses (within my control)
- I can't afford a gym membership, the 12WBT program, a new road bike...
- It's too cold (or hot), I'll just do my workout later.
- I just don't feel like it today.
- I have the boys and Nath and Mikaela are away for the weekend.
Solutions
- Yes, you can afford it - sacrifices can always be made where need be.
- It wont be cold (or hot) once you get started... and you know you wont do it later!
- So what!
- Hire a babysitter if it is a key workout, like a long run for marathon training.
External Excuses (Outside my control)
- I'm injured.
Solutions
- Do your recovery & physio... take it easy when you know you need to. Ramp it up as you get better.
Task 3 - Take Control, Set your Goal...
1 month Goals
Lose 6-8kgs and get lean again.
How I will get There
Follow MB12WBT to the letter & record in my food diary.
3 month Goals
- Participate in the 2011 Canberra Triathlon novice series.
- Participate in the Tour de Femme.
How I will get There
- Do a Novice Triathlon training program, do with FIT training sessions.
- Do the FIT Tour de Femme training program (I have registered, ready to go)
6 month Goals
Run the Canberra Marathon.
Do an Olympic distance triathlon? Maybe.
How I will get There
Get injury sorted. Follow training program, work with Lex Anderson, or similar to get results without injury - either reoccurance, or further injury.
Engage the brain... you know how to do this, just stick with it!!
Task 4 - Gear Up...
I am totally geared up. I have:
LOTS of great fabulous workout gear {fitting a little too snuggly right now!}
My gym bag all sorted.
Shoes, gloves, seat cover for RIDE classes.
Gloves and towel for weights.
Drink bottles x 2 as I thought I'd lost one, turns out I hadn't!!
My Garmin 400 and Polar RS300x
And soon to get a little something like this:
I say "like" because I have no real set idea as to what I am getting right now... just know that I need one if I am going to do any kinda triathlons this season :)
Task 5 - Say it out loud...
Clearly, by the simple fact that I have a blog... it's obvious I don't mind putting myself out there and stating my intentions.
However... I really hate when my intentions and desires, aspirations do not come into reality. Like my marathon, and getting injured. Can't be helped.
You know what I did do tho? I did the training... I ran 500kms... and that is an amazing achievement in itself. Most people who have done a marathon know that the training is where the hard work is... the race itself is the icing on the cake. Not to say I don't want myself some icing.
This round I intend to lose some weight, do some triathlons, more marathon training... and hopefully actually complete a marathon without injury.
Task 6 - Kitchen Makeover...
Mmmm... there is still some crap in my house. My husband is a junk food addict. He is a super freak pocket rocket with about 4% body fat (and I curse him for it frequently!!) LOL. If he wants to eat it, he needs to leave it in his office.
Task 7 - Organise and Diarise...
This is my favourite part of the challenge, I'll post photos of the food diary book I've created.
This post has a bit on what I've done so far.
Task 8 - Measure Up...
This was not fun for me at all this season :( last season it was great.
Here I am at the start of this round.
I'll put the stats and photos up here once I've made a bit of a dent in them!
So excited about this round... here's to making the most of it!
I am never going to give up trying to be the best version of myself... and create the lifestyle for myself and my family that I aspire to. Everyday.
